Somerville and Ezekiel lead charge for Dolphins on day one

A dominant display with bat and ball on day one from Easts Dolphins has put them in command of their round two fixture against UNSW at Waverley Oval.

Missing four NSW players that played a part in their opening round win, their absence didn't result in a decline in quality of performance.

After being forced to field first, Easts dismissed the Bumblebees for 169 just after the tea break and by stumps, the Dolphins had raced to 0-102.

It was the 30 minutes before lunch that proved decisive, where the Bees fell from 1-50 to 5-74 including the loss of their skipper David Dawson to 18-year-old debutant Jason Ralston (1-32).

The Bees held up Easts briefly with a 47-run 9th wicket partnership, but opening bowler Sam Doggett returned on swiftly finished off the tail and finished with figures of 3-42.

Will Somerville was the pick of the bowlers for the Dolphins, with the off-spinner taking 4-58 from 24 overs.

Promising 19-year-old left arm quick George Furrer also continued his impressive start taking 2-13 off a miserly 10 overs.

In reply it was Adam Ezekiel (64*) and Peter Lazarus (36*) who ensured the bowlers efforts did not go to waste as they put the Dolphins in prime position to take first innings points on day two.
