Michael Bevan re-signs, Murray Creed named assistant04-Jun-2014
Easts Dolphins are pleased to announce two-time World Cup winner Michael Bevan has agreed to a one-year contract extension for the 2014/15 season as Head Coach.
In his first season in charge, Easts won silverware for the first time since 2007/08 after Fourth Grade won the Premiership and all grades bar one improved their table position.
Bevan said he always planned on signing on for a second year.
“Coaching is never really a one year gig as changing and improving the culture and attitude of players takes time,” Bevan said.
“I think this is a driving factor with regards to my coaching in general and why I wanted to re-sign.”
In 2014/15, Bevan will be joined by former first-class player Murray Creed as the club’s assistant coach. Creed is the creator of the online coaching service Centre Wicket and has spent recent seasons coaching with UNSW.
Bevan said Creed was the perfect candidate and is looking forward to building upon plans from last season.
“Last year we really just kept it simple and worked on the basics in all facets.”
“This year we should be able to take the next step in terms of working on developing more complex game plans and increase the variety and quality of training drills.”
Easts President Jim Maxwell admitted even he was surprised by the level of quality the club has been able to attract in the coaching ranks.
“There can’t be many clubs with two former first-class players and level 3 coaches in their ranks,” Maxwell said.
“It’s great having Michael signed on again to build on his work from last year and I know Murray personally and am sure he will add great value on the training pitch.”
Although part of the squad have already begun pre-season work with fitness trainer Wayne Geber – the official start to the pre-season will commence on July 30.
