Local community enjoys West Indies visit to Easts

13-Feb-2015

Easts have played their part in the Cricket World Cup, hosting West Indies in their pre World Cup camp at Waverley Oval.

The entire Windies squad was in attendance including global superstar Chris Gayle. The staff also had plenty of plenty of star power with Sir Richie Richardson, Sir Clive Lloyd (chairman of selectors) and Sir Curtly Ambrose (bowling coach) in attendance.

Local residents were warned that there was an increased risk to their cars parked surrounding the ground and with good reason as ball flew out of Waverley for most of the week. Gayle hit one ball down to the adjacent petrol station and Andre Russell hit one of the biggest sixes of the week up over cover and into café.

Players were only too happy to give their time to fans who came to the ground and watch.

A presentation was held on Thursday afternoon with Richardson presenting the club with two signed West Indies shirts.

The Club and West Indies extended a large thanks to Waverley Council, who provided great assistance with the organisation and catering of the week.
