Dolphins visit Dubbo

The Eastern Suburbs Dolphins travelled west to the New South Wales country town of Dubbo this weekend.

With a squad that included Sydney Sixers star Henry Thornton, former first-class player Tim Armstrong and new recruits Marcus Atallah and Jarryd Hatton they played a Twenty20 fixture and a limited over match.

Friday night saw the team go down narrowly in the Twenty20 fixture under lights at Victoria Park with the Roosters and Souths NRL game being played on the big screen in the background. Far from a disheartening result for the Easts lads the match saw two players swapped to represent the opposition side. Dubbo had the services of locally born Tim Armstrong and Henry Thornton.

Henry Thornton produced a match-winning 42 not out and took two catches and a run out to keep his Easts team mates on their toes. The match also saw Dubbo born Easts Green Shield representative Tom Coady score 42 runs off 31 balls for Dubbo, while Nic Taylor shone in the Easts innings with 43 runs off 21 balls including two shots for 12 as the game followed Dubbo night cricket rules with the batting team nominating an "Maxi over" with double runs off the bat.

Saturday saw the players return to Victoria Park for a 40-over a-side match. Easts were triumphant in the game with contributions across the park. Udit Mehta claimed 3/9 with the ball, while new captain Jack Preddey top scored for Easts with 31  off 36 balls. New recruits Marcus Atallah showed Easts have lots of spinners to pick from this season with 2/32, while Jarryd Hatton hit the winning runs.

The club thanks all of those involved in hosting the team in Dubbo.
